Pastina translates to “little pasta” in Italian and has a cult following for being the ultimate comfort food. There are many different shapes that fall into the “pastina” category, and we can’t wait to make more of them accessible to you all!
Yes, and?
Bring 6 cups of water to a boil. Salt generously
Add in ¼ cup of pastina and stir
Cook for 12 minutes or until al dente, stirring frequently
Drain, add to your soup or sauce, and enjoy!
One of the most common ways to eat pastina is in soup. When serving it this way, we recommend cooking the pastina separately per package instructions then adding it to your pre-made soup.
Our favorite way to enjoy pastina is to have it plain and simple: pastina, butter, parmigiano. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Some people crack an egg in it to make it extra thick and creamy.
For risotto lovers, pastina can be utilized in a very similar way. Instead of cooking the pastina, draining it, and adding it to your soup or sauce, boil it in the same pot as your broth and raw ingredients. Mixy mix often and let it bubble & boil until it’s cooked (about 10-12 minutes) or until the pastina is al dente and the sauce is at your desired thickness.
Pastina can be loved in so many ways beyond a basic dish, and we highly encourage y’all to have fun with it!
Like most gluten free pastas, Lil Pastina makes the pasta water very starchy. We advise always cooking it in a large pot and making sure to stir occasionally to prevent sticking. When in doubt, follow our recommendations on the box for a water to pasta ratio. After giving it a try, scale up or down as you feel comfortable.
